Speaking in an interview with Prensa Ibérica (h/t SPORT), Ferran Torres has reiterated that he will not leave Barcelona this summer and will stay at the club.
Like many players in Barca’s squad, Ferran’s future is also uncertain with reports suggesting the club would be open to offers and would consider the possibility of a sale should something interesting arise.
The forward, currently on international duty with Spain at UEFA Euro 2024, however, insisted that the idea of leaving has never crossed his mind and that he plans to stay and succeed at Barcelona.
“I will continue at Barca next season, it’s not that I want to stay, it’s that I will stay.” he had said in June.
Reaffirming his stance
Now, during the latest interview, Ferran has gone ahead and confirmed his position regarding his Barcelona future.
“I don’t know, I’m one of those people who puts my phone on airplane mode and I can’t hear what they’re saying about me.” Torres said of rumors and speculation.
“I am in Barcelona, I have a contract with Barcelona and I will continue in Barcelona. the Spanish international confirmed at the time.
Torres also revealed that he had received messages from new coach Hansi Flick wishing him luck at the Euros, saying:
“A few messages wishing me luck. And I’m already looking forward to going to Barcelona, talking to the coach, putting myself in his hands, because I’m sure he’ll get a lot of potential from us.”
Praise for Lamine, Nico
Ferran then went on to praise Barcelona teenage prodigy Lamine Yamal and the club’s top target Nico Williams, who have both won the Euros with Spain.
“They are miracles, they are children out of the ordinary, they show it and at their age it has great value.” said the former Manchester City forward.
“You have to look after them because they are very young, you can put a lot of pressure on them, they have to have fun and keep doing the same because they are very good people.” he added.
When asked if he gives advice to Yamal, who is a team-mate at both club and international level, Ferran replied:
“He doesn’t need football tips because he’s very good. I can give him advice off the field because of my experiences. I’m a teammate who tries to help as much as possible in any way I can.”
When asked if he would welcome the signings of Spanish team-mates Dani Olmo and Nico to Barcelona, he said:
“Damn it! All positive reinforcements for Barca would be good for us to succeed.”
In the injuries of Pendri and Araujo
Ferran also commented on the injuries suffered by two of his Barcelona teammates, Pedri and Ronald Araujo, last week with their respective national teams.
“He’s a little confused. He misses the rest of the European Championship, but I have no doubt that he will support us and give us a lot of strength off the pitch.” Torres said of Pedrey.
On how Barcelona should deal with the twin injuries, he added: “There are a lot of matches, with a lot of demands, matches every three days, with virtually no time to rest. It is normal to have injuries. We have to minimize them and finish the season as healthy as possible.”
