Nana Agueyi Baffour Awuah, Member of Parliament for the ruling New Patriotic Party in Manhyia South Constituency and a private lawyer, emerged victorious in the party’s parliamentary primary elections held on Sunday, July 14, 2024.
Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah will be the Parliamentary candidate for the constituency, replacing the outgoing Member of Parliament, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh.
According to myjoyonline.com, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah polled 376 votes, beating the 141 votes of Nana Owusu Prempeh, the younger brother of the outgoing MP.
Among other contestants, Akwasi Coker Gyambibi bagged two votes while James Owusu bagged seven votes.
Following the selection of the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, as running mate to the Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP in the constituency has conducted a primary to select a new candidate for the upcoming by-election.
Five people filed papers to run, but only four candidates participated in the primary.
With Manhyia South being a stronghold of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), the winner of the primary election is expected to have a strong chance of securing victory in the general election to become a member of Parliament.
