The case of a Sowutuom-based musician who was lynched while visiting his alleged married lover in Kumasi has taken an unexpected turn.
According to recent media reports, Nana Yau, popularly known by his stage name Wilby, was on Friday, 5th July, 2024, in Abuakwa Tanoso, Ashanti Region, while staying at the home of his lover who also identifies himself as Nana Yaa.
In a recorded live interaction on social media shared by EDHUB, which earlier broke the news, Nana Yaa’s overseas husband, Kingsley, denied allegations that his wife had had a sexual relationship with the deceased woman.
While Mr Kingsley maintained his wife’s innocence, he claimed Nana Yau was an armed robber who had broken into their home and attempted to attack his wife, mother and child.
“My mother told me that while she was sleeping with her son, she heard someone breaking through the first gate and coming into the house. When my mother asked who it was, she was told she saw someone with a big rock banging it against the door, shouting at them to open the door and threatening to kill them.”
He said the victim’s family members cried out for help as they made persistent attempts to enter the house, resulting in the victim being caught by the mob as he tried to flee the scene and was lynched.
It was previously reported that the deceased had been spending the night with Nana Yaa when he woke up and went outside to relieve himself, but was spotted by residents of the property and confronted as they suspected him to be a thief.
The deceased reportedly explained that he had come to stay at his girlfriend’s house, but she denied knowing him in order to protect her marriage.
This escalated the situation and the occupants of the house alerted neighbours that they had caught the burglar, after which the deceased was brutally beaten and later pronounced dead at the hospital.
However, Mr Kingsley vehemently denied this story and maintained that his wife did not know the deceased.
“The story is not true. Last year when I was in Ghana, my wife always kept a toilet in our room because she did not want to go to the toilet in the middle of the night. I sometimes teased her for having a toilet in our room,” he said.
He added that his wife’s 12-year-old son, who slept in the same room as her, corroborated her story.
