The Deputy Minority Leader in Parliament, Mr Emmanuel Armah Kofi Bua, recently criticised Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh for comparing President Akufo-Addo’s track record with that of Dr Kwame Nkrumah.
Senator Elembere highlighted Nkrumah’s unparalleled legacy especially in the Ashanti Region through projects such as KNUST, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and others.
He praised Nkrumah for making Ghana a shining star in Africa and leading the country to independence, saying that more than 60 years later, over 30 percent of Ghana’s strength and energy is due to the legacy of Osagyefo, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
He highlighted Nkrumah’s impact on the continent, including being elected leader of the millennium and leading African countries to independence.
In contrast, he pointed to President Akufo-Addo’s challenges, including mounting debt, hardship, corruption, etc. Bua’s comparison highlights both Nkrumah’s credibility for his extraordinary achievements and the perceived shortcomings of the Akufo-Addo administration.
“The achievements of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Osagyefo, are unparalleled. Today, when we start talking about Kwame Nkrumah, we can talk about a region that was frankly not his base and the legacy he left there. Let us talk about the Ashanti Region and what Dr. Osagyefo has achieved.”
“There are many things he has done in the Ashanti Region such as the Kwame University of Science and Technology, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Jute Mills in Kumasi, Shoe Factory in Kumasi, Kumasi Central Market, Accra-Kumasi Expressway and this is just one of the areas I am talking about.
“More than 60 years later, speaking of his great achievements in Ghana, over 30 percent of Ghana’s strength and energy is due to the legacy and vision of Osagyefo, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
“The leadership of Dr. Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah was not limited to this country. He made Ghana the shining star of Africa. That is why he was chosen as the African of the Millennium for his achievements and leadership role. How he led many African countries to independence.”
He added: “But what about President Akufo-Addo’s record? This president has put us in debt. This president has put us in hardship and excruciating pain. And the economic hardship is worse than it’s ever been.”
“He is a president and under his leadership we have seen corruption on an unimaginable level. He is a president who has divided the country and frankly a president who has corrupted every institution in this country,” he said in a media interview.
