Prempeh University referred to the National Science and Mathematics Quiz (NSMQ) organizers’ response to protests during the semi-final competition on Thursday, October 19th.
This came after Prime Time Limited upheld its decision not to award points to Prempeh University for its answers to riddles in Thursday’s semi-final competition.
In a letter to the school, they said that after speaking with their resident physics consultant, there was no error in the quiz teacher’s decision.
In a new letter, Prempeh University cited a number of issues raised by Prime Time Limited, including the consultant’s response to the protests and accusations of bias on social media.
They denied accusations by organizers of the National Science and Mathematics Quiz of bias after they protested the answers to riddles in the semi-finals on Thursday, October 19.
A statement from the school stated, “It is regrettable that after participating in the tournament for such a long time, they are being accused of tarnishing the name of the tournament.”
In their initial letter announcing the protest, Prempeh University did not allege any bias or favoritism towards their school or any other school by the organizers, and asked Primetime to explain why they believe their answer is correct. He pointed out that it was just that.
“It is extremely unfortunate that our petition has provoked a reaction bordering on condemnation and rebuttal, as it hints at bias and favoritism. We would like to make it clear that we are not campaigning either, so we advise you to ignore such issues and address the issues raised in our protest,” reads part of the statement.
“While we appreciate the work your institution has done for science and mathematics in Ghana and beyond with the introduction of this National Science and Mathematics Quiz since 1993, we agree with this decision regarding the riddle. I would like to add that it cannot be done.”
Prempeh College added that they are participating in prime time at this level for the first time because they truly believe in the position they have taken, showing that they have supported the program and the winners even in the years when they left early. .
Regarding Prime Time’s response to their protests, Prempeh University said it still stands by its position that the answers given by the contestants were correct.
They denied reaching an agreement with NSMQ consultants when the issue was first raised on the contest floor. “We must point out that the consultant not only acquiesced, but also did not engage in dialogue with our leadership regarding this matter,” the school said.
“Regarding the puzzling question posed, we contend that the answer given in your reply does not address the investigation in terms of the clues provided, and this is based on various references and authorities on the subject. Not supported by any publication.”
“Given the possibility that we have reached an impasse, we urge you to engage an independent consultant or organization to finally resolve this matter, as one cannot be a judge in one’s own matters.” We are determined that our answer is the right one, and we will use all means necessary, including legal action, to ensure that Prempeh University and its contestants receive a fair hearing. ”
Prempeh University added that it would refer the matter to other international organizations and experts and provide a copy of the responses to the NSMQ organizers at the appropriate time.
