Salam Amadou, CEO of the Afro-Arab Group of Companies, has expressed interest in the controversial Sagremi housing project and appealed to the government to consider selling the abandoned project.
In an unaired interview with KSM, he promised to complete the housing as soon as possible so residents can enjoy its benefits.
According to him, shelter is a fundamental human right and therefore it cannot be ignored that the buildings constructed under the Sagremi housing project remain unused.
He believed that a home is not just a structure, but an important space that provides shelter, comfort, and security.
“I urge the government to sell me the Sagremi housing project so I can turn these unfinished houses into comfortable homes for our fellow Ghanaians.” he said.
The chairman of the Afro-Arab Business Group further revealed that the current situation in the Sagremi housing project has affected him psychologically.
“It breaks my heart every time I see an unfinished house,” he said.
He noted that quality housing solutions are urgently needed and action must be taken, especially after the flood disaster caused by the Akosombo dam spill that displaced many people.
He therefore believes there is an opportunity to revitalize the Saglemi Housing Project, which will provide affordable and quality housing to Ghanaians.
Meanwhile, Andrew Krokanas, the contractor who carried out the project, is on trial for allegedly causing financial loss to the province through the failed project.
The other defendants are former Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, Dr. Kwaku Agyemang Mensah, Executive Chairman of Constratra OAS Ghana Limited, Mr. Alhaji Jibrim Yakubu (fourth defendant), Ridge Management Solutions Ltd. Mr. Nuvi Tetteh Angelo, CEO and owner of Ghana. Limited (fifth defendant).
They are on trial over the Sagremi affordable housing project and have been charged with 70 charges.
They allegedly intentionally caused financial loss to the state by exceeding the $200 million approved for the project.
All pleaded not guilty and were granted bail.
