Real Madrid have decided to end their interest in Kylian Mbappe, according to reports in Spain.
The Spanish giants were expected to make a move for the PSG star when his contract expires in the summer.
However, Real have now frozen their interest for three reasons, according to Spanish outlet Cadena Ser.
The first concern is that Mbappe would destroy the wage structure at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Mbappe would demand at least €20m (£17.5m), with the top-flight currently earning between €10m and €15m (£13m).
Secondly, Real have already failed in three attempts to lure the France forward away from Paris.
And finally, the 24-year-old does not fit their transfer policy of only investing in younger talent.
Earlier this month Real Madrid denied claims they had held talks with Mbappe before his contract expires next summer – calling the rumors “completely false”.
Mbappe will become a free agent at the end of the season as things stand and should he fail to agree new terms with the French side, there will be plenty of elite clubs queuing up to secure one of the world’s best players for free.
The Frenchman endured a strained relationship with his club in the summer amid uncertainty over his future and was at one point exiled to play with the B team. Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal even made a world record £257million move, but the player chose not to move to the Middle East.
He has since ironed out issues with PSG and returned to the first team – scoring ten times in nine Ligue 1 starts – as he looks to resolve questions over his future.
