SuperSport United manager Gavin Hunt has revealed why being with more North African teams in the same group is a preference over facing clubs from other regions.
United will face USM Alger in a CAF Confederation Cup Group A match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday afternoon. It is the second matchday of the group for her DStv Premiership team after losing their opening match 1-0 to Modern Future of Egypt last week.
United are in the same group as Al Hilal Benghazi [Libya]USM [Algeria] and Future [Egypt]. All of their away games will be in the North African region, but Hunt insists their advantage is that they know what kind of teams they have to face.
SAME GROUP WITH NORTH AFRICAN COUNTRIES FRIENDLY FOR GAVIN HUNTING?
“That’s what I prefer [North African teams] because they are almost all alike in the way they approach football matches,β he said.
“If you’re playing a West African or Central African team it’s different. These teams are more structured, their game mentality and their game is completely different from the South and West African teams.
“They manage their game a lot better. Well, it’s much better for them if they lose obviously it’s different. But it’s game management, it’s football intelligence the way they do things. So you know more about the North African teams and what you will be up against. They are very structured, as I said compared to other parts of Africa,β Hunt said during a media briefing in Polokwane ahead of the match.
SUPERSPORT UNITED FACE A FIRM BATTLE AGAINST THE CHAMPIONS
United are currently third on the log without a point, while Future and Alger have collected maximum points in their opening games. Alger are the defending Champions after defeating the Young Africans in last year’s final.
