Hooligans from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have engaged in vandalism across Accra, pulling down billboards bearing John Mahama’s Dada Noah election slogan.
The billboards highlighted former President Mahama’s broken promises and displayed quotes describing his insensitive and inhumane comments.
Some of the messages included: “Stop aimless lamentation and self-pity,” “I am not a magician who will put money in your pocket,” “Chalk is not allowed in school,” and “Ghanaians I complain too much,” were included.
The messages on these billboards have clearly infuriated some Mahama supporters, urging them to take matters into their own hands and remove the billboards.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the growing tensions between the NDC and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the 2024 elections approach. The NPP and its supporters appear determined to outperform the opposition, focusing on sound policies and practical messages aimed at improving the country’s economy.
For the NPP, elections are not about relying on dirty propaganda or spreading outright lies to ensure victory. They emphasize the importance of providing practical and actionable ideas to improve the lives of Ghanaians.
In view of these recent developments, it remains to be seen whether the NDC billboard targeting prominent NPP member Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will meet a similar fate as the billboard depicting John Mahama.
This act of vandalism highlights the need for political parties and their supporters to uphold democratic principles and engage in respectful debate and peaceful competition as Ghana prepares for the next elections.
