Gyan and Gifty’s marital issues in court
In 2018, Gyan went to court seeking an annulment of his 2013 marriage to UK-based Gifty.
As part of his demands, Ghana’s all-time leading scorer had questioned the paternity of their three children and asked for a DNA test. Test results confirmed him as the father of all three children.
Gyan was seeking the annulment on the basis that Gifty was already “married”, a sham marriage in 2002, at the time she married him.
The court ruling on Gyan’s marriage
According reports, the court ruled that even though Gifty was only 17 when she “married” in 2002, it was still a valid union.
Based on this, the subsequent marriage with Gyan was annulled. But Justice Ameleboba acknowledged that there was enough evidence to show that Gyan and Gifty had been having an affair since 2003. That relationship had already produced two children before they formalized their union in 2013.
The court awarded her the registered properties on her behalf to the care and custody of their children while Gyan continued his football career to the fullest.
