Former Ghana international and Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan has been ordered to pay GHȼ 25,000 ($2,101) monthly for the welfare and maintenance of his three children with his ex-wife, Gifty.
Gyan is also set to compensate his ex-wife with a house he owns in the UK and another four-bedroom house in Ghana, a petrol station and some cars.
These are among the orders made on Tuesday, October 31, by the High Court in Accra, which is hearing the couple’s divorce suit for the past three years.
The couple had gone their separate ways over Gyan’s denial of paternity of the children, however, the court ruled on Tuesday that Gyan is the biological father of Gifty’s three children.
The $2,101 for the welfare and maintenance of the three children does not include their educational expenses, medical and dental settlements and airfare for travel, among other child-rearing expenses.
The court order follows a petition filed in 2019 by Asamoah Gyan’s wife Gifty Gyan at the Divorce and Marriage Division of the Accra High Court.
According to the lady, Asamoah Gyan stopped caring for his children and his wife in July 2018 when he filed for annulment of their marriage.
According to the report, Gifty Gyan asked the court to order Asamoah to start taking care of his family again until the court decides on their divorce.
Asamoah Gyan became the subject of ridicule in a Ghanaian court when it turned out that all the children are his biological children after the paternity test he requested was confirmed.
Asamoah Gyan in his annulment application told the court that he doubts his wife’s children are his and asked for a DNA test.
When it was administered and the results came in, all the children were biologically his without a shadow of a doubt, according to the report.
