“I would like to tell the House that we have taken steps to ensure that these gentlemen are released and brought back to Galle,” he asserted.
He said the Upper East Regional Minister and other officials from the region were allowed to meet with those detained.

Afenyomarkin said the House of Representatives would be briefed again once the eight arrested persons are finally released.
But in response, the parliamentary minority said it was unable to confirm whether the rights of the eight people were violated during their detention and was waiting to hear from them.
“Certainly, if they are still in detention, you can’t complain or say whatever you want. Let’s wait until they get out, we’ll find out if they were abused,” said the minority. said the Chief Whip, Governor Kwame Agboza.
