The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s deputy national communications director, George Klobair Asante, is optimistic about the party’s prospects heading into the 2024 general elections.
He believes that with a united front and collective efforts, the NPP can remain in power and continue its mission to bring relief to Ghanaians.
In a statement released on Sunday, Mr. Asante congratulated Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on his victory in the presidential primaries held last Saturday.
He called on party members to rally behind the Vice President and support his efforts to break the eight-year cycle in Ghana’s political history.
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has already called on other aspirants and party members to unite to achieve the NPP’s ambition to remain in power in the 2024 elections.
According to him, fellow candidates participating in this process have deepened the democratic credentials of the NPP and “their energy, time, commitment and resources have contributed to revitalizing the party’s base and are important It prepared us all for a great fight.” 2024. ”
Delivering his inaugural address on Saturday, November 4, Dr. Bawumia expressed his determination to work with all aspirants and party supporters “to achieve the party’s ambition of breaking through to 8th place.”
“That ambition requires the participation of all aspirants, including my good friend Kennedy Agyapong, who wanted to challenge me today,” he said.
The certified election results revealed that Dr Bawumia received 61.43% of the votes while Mr Agyapong was his closest competitor with 37.41%. Dr. Afriyie Akoto and Dr. Addai Nimoh received 1,459 and 731 votes respectively.
A total of 192,446 delegates participated in the presidential primary election, with a turnout of 94.63%. Although Dr Bawumia’s victory was expected, he fell short of the 80% target set by his campaign.
Dr Bawumia’s victory is historic as it is the first time that a non-Akan leader represents the NPP in a general election. He has been President Akufo-Addo’s running mate since 2008.
The 2024 elections are expected to be highly competitive, with both Dr. Bawumia and former President Mahama seen as formidable candidates. The outcome will depend on several factors, including economic conditions, election strategy, and voter turnout.
Additionally, all other candidates pledged their support to Dr. Bawumia.
