Declan Rice had a nightmare in a gingerbread-making competition between England stars – while Kieran Trippier couldn’t keep his hand from shaking.
The Arsenal midfielder wasn’t sure how to use his scalpel to cut out the shape of his delicious humanoid treat.
Trent Alexander-Arnold stormed into the competition but former Liverpool team-mate Jordan Henderson complained he was “crackling” in the high-pressure match.
They may have graced football’s biggest stages, but England’s stars were pushed to the limit in a 35-minute Channel 4 Great British Bake Off special hosted by Paul Hollywood.
Rice appeared to be struggling to figure out how he was supposed to hold the scalpel.
Reading the instructions, she said, “Place the cardboard template on the cookie dough and carefully cut out the football player shape.
“What am I cutting with, this? I don’t even know which way it should be used!
“I don’t even know where I’m going, what I’m doing.”
He was later heard crying out for help after having difficulty transferring his creation to a baking tray.
Steven Gerrard, midfielder Jordan Henderson favored Paul Gascoigne, while Kieran Trippier chose Wayne Rooney – although you might have struggled to tell from the final product alone.
Across the room, Trippier looked at Rice’s flaws, but he wasn’t free of his own.
“Look at this, I’m shaking!” he said pointing to his worried hand. Trippier admitted he felt “more nervous doing this than playing football”.
Meanwhile, Henderson appeared to be doing well but was self-critical. “Come on man, give us a break. I’m just breaking down,” she said.
He seemed to have it in for his Alexander-Arnold after first trying to steal his flour and then blocking him in the kitchen.
Alexander-Arnold rose above his competition to highlight the avenue he could take after his football career.
The right back shone and received a glowing report from host Hollywood.
She said: “I made a fudge once and it was great. It was wet, never dried, never collapsed, ran. It was absolutely amazing, you know?
“I’m gonna do Stevie G [as my gingerbread man]. My idol growing up, my idol of England and Liverpool, pay tribute.’
Hollywood told him he had it “in the bag” and “don’t worry about the other guys” as the Liverpool star blossomed.
“Keep it quiet. I don’t want to let the lads down so keep it between us,” joked Alexander-Arnold.
But despite his confidence, viewers will have to wait until 5.30pm today to see who is crowned star baker when the full video is released on Channel 4’s YouTube channel.
