Warner: ‘It was surreal to be here for 112 Tests’
Australia’s captain speaks to the media ahead of his final Test
David Warner has appealed on social media for the rucksack containing his loose green cap to be returned after it went missing on the trip from Melbourne to Sydney ahead of his final Test.
Warner will make his final Test appearance at the SCG this week and is desperate to get his cap back.
“Hey everyone, this is my last resort,” she wrote on Instagram, along with a video, “but my backpack, containing my Baggy Green, was removed from my luggage, which was taken to Melbourne airport and flew @qantas to Sydney a few days ago. @qantas said they checked their cameras and haven’t seen anyone opening our bags and taking the backpack, however they have blind spots. If you’re the person who either worked for the company that drove it to and from the airport or work for @qantas and just happened to want the backpack, I’ve got one for. I would be grateful if you could get back to me as soon as possible. Thanks.”
“Please contact Cricket Australia or myself via social media and I’m happy to give it to you if you return my greens,” Warner added in the video.
Speaking minutes before the news broke of Warner’s wide green, captain Pat Cummins hailed him as a game-changer in the Test format.
“I think everyone will think of him in their own way,” he said. “Personally, I think of him when he first came on the scene and he really changed Test cricket. He was impressive with over 70, which is unheard of, especially for an opening batsman, to average 40 or 50. That’s the Davey I remember – going out there and taking the game away from the opposition over the course of an hour or two, and I’ve been doing it for over a decade.
“His longevity is something that’s overlooked. Just the bulk of the cricket he’s played in the last 12-13 years is way more than anyone else in the world. Every time he goes out there, he’s competitive and ready to go. Australian champion sports. Hopefully he’ll have a good send-off this week.”
Cummins confirmed Australia would field an unchanged line-up in the Sydney Test as they look to secure the series 3-0.
