Accra, January 11 GNA – National Democratic Congress (NDC) standard bearer, former President John Dramani Mahama, says the NDC will use new technologies to ensure the success of its 24 hour economic policy.
He said the policy will form the foundation of efforts to transform the economy from its current state to a cutting-edge economy based on cutting-edge technology, innovations and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
“Many Ghanaians want a robust economy that works around the clock to create more room for employment and speed up the country’s recovery,” he noted, saying an NDC government would make this work to the benefit of all.
Former President Mahama was speaking at a flag bearers meeting at the 75th Annual New Year School and Conference (ANYSC) at the University of Ghana, Legon.
The School of Continuing and Distance Education (SCDE) of the College of Education at the University of Ghana is collaborating with various partners and institutions for the 75th ANYSC under the theme: “Cultivating Resilience: Embracing Technology and Embracing Humanism for Sustainable Development”.
ANYSC brought together academics, policy makers, business leaders, civil society organizations and other stakeholders to discuss the unprecedented challenges facing institutions and the need to develop resilience, adapt to leveraging technology and promote human values and dignity.
The Conference is also exploring ways to harness the digital economy and enhance digital literacy in the face of rapidly evolving technology to promote sustainable development among other issues.
Former President Mahama said as the country embraced technology, it must prioritize the dignity and well-being of all its citizens and ensure that progress was inclusive and sustainable and fueled resilience by balancing technological progress and human values.
“In the celebration of technology we must not forget that we are first of all human beings and therefore we must not abandon our humanitarian values. We must not overlook the importance of humanitarianism in shaping our approach to development. Humanism emphasizes the value and urgency of every person and calls for empathy, compassion and ethical decision-making,” he said.
Mr. Mahama also stated that for the country to move to its next critical level of development, there was the need to build a proactive, adaptable and compassionate society.
“Ghana needs a society that can withstand present and future challenges, which require bold leadership, strategic planning and a commitment to investing in people and their future.”
He said as the standard bearer of the NDC, he pledged to uphold these principles and work for a future built on resilience, technology and humanity.
