Musk expressed his belief that showing these engagement metrics would clutter the platform’s interface.
“That’s definitely happening. It’s just that the number of views, as a proxy for the other metrics, will show up in the timeline,” Musk wrote to X the same day.
He thinks that the display of likes and reposts can make X look messy.
Essentially, Musk aims to streamline the user experience by focusing on view metrics as a proxy for other engagement metrics.
X removes headlines from news links
This isn’t the first time Musk has proposed drastic changes to the X.
In August 2023, it announced that the platform would remove all article titles for links posted to X, to improve aesthetics.
The changes finally rolled out in October, only for Musk to reverse the decision less than two months later.
Musk said in an X post on Nov. 22 that X will display article titles “on top of the image of a URL card.”

Elon Musk sues OpenAI for ‘betrayal’ of mission
YEN.com.gh reported that Elon Musk has launched legal action against OpenAI, the artificial intelligence company he helped found in 2015, accusing its leaders of “betraying” its founding mission.
The tycoon, who left OpenAI in 2018, argued in documents filed in a San Francisco court that the company was always intended as a non-profit entity.
He said recent boardroom changes meant OpenAI was now effectively a subsidiary of software giant Microsoft, arguing this was a breach of contract.
