Dr. Kwabena Donkor is the current Member of Parliament for Puru Easu.
Dr Kwabena Donkor, former Minister of Power and Member of Parliament for Pru East, said the responsibility for issuing load reduction timetables lies with the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) and not the Minister of Energy.
This clarification was issued amid discussions on the ongoing power stability issue, locally known as ‘Dumsol’, which addresses the demand for a formal load shedding schedule from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
On March 25, 2024, at the launch of the New Patriotic Party’s campaign team in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh told those requesting a timetable that if they thought it was important, they could I challenged them to create a schedule.
His comments received backlash from some sections of the Ghanaian public.
However, during an appearance on Joy News News Files, Dr. Kwabena Donkor said that although the Minister of Energy may relay information from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), ultimately the publication of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) He said PURC has the authority to require and enforce. Such a timetable.
“The minister says, ‘The ECG says.'” If you listen to him, he says, the ECG says, he doesn’t say, and, first of all, the schedule. It’s not the minister’s responsibility to issue something or not…it’s PURC’s responsibility.
“They have a mandate to demand it, and they have demanded it. So when it comes to the minister, what the minister is saying is kind of on the sidelines,” he said.
Meanwhile, ECG said that the problem causing the nationwide power outage has been resolved and that there is now a stable power supply in the country.
The company apologized for the disruption and directed those still affected to contact their local offices.
Recent power instability has sparked public criticism and concern about the impact on businesses and daily activities, which is further exacerbated by the lack of load-shedding schedules.
