Heal Komfo Anokye (Teaching Hospital) Project Team Chairman Sammy Adu Boakye has criticized the insensitivity of government and state institutions to the health needs of ordinary Ghanaians.
Mr. Adu Boakye said that the state, which has failed in its responsibility to ensure that health facilities have the infrastructure, equipment and supplies they need to operate efficiently, has imposed heavy taxes on donations raised to support those same facilities. I am dissatisfied with what I am doing.
He submits a Ghana Revenue Authority tax amount of GHż1,714,265.13 issued on 25 March 2024 at Tema Port. He says this is the tax for 10 containers of tiles.
“How can we pay customs duties and other taxes to the government when successive governments have been ignoring it for 70 years by demanding money from ordinary Ghanaians? I ask His Majesty to intervene. I wrote a letter to ask you to do so.
“It’s unfortunate… 1.8 million cedis for 10 containers with tiles, and of course the materials for electricity and plumbing have not arrived yet.The letter sent to the finance minister through the director about two months ago has not yet been approved.
“Late fees are already in place and are approximately $1,500 per day.
“This attitude means that we will still have to pay for subsequent materials as well.We should appeal to ice water sellers, market women, shoemakers, etc. to donate to the project so they can collect the tax. Isn’t it??” “Please take a look…” said Kweku Chain’s voice. I hope something comes out of this so I can save money for other jobs.
“Despite these setbacks, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our brave donors who have shown that they care about the health needs of ordinary Ghanaians on the streets. We continue to appeal to all Ghanaians of goodwill, both at home and abroad, to join us. To the many corporate institutions who have not yet responded to His Majesty’s call, we hope you will donate generously to this great cause. I’m ready and waiting for you to come.
“This is for us and by us.
“Thank you to KATH’s management, board of directors, and employees for their support.”
Mr. Boakye concluded by stressing in Akan language that this project is for the people and will definitely be implemented, and concluded with a determination not to give up. “Yeah, yeah, yeah.”

Heal Comfo Anokye Project
This is a proposal to address the urgent need for infrastructure improvements at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), the second largest teaching hospital in Ghana.
official project documentation caDespite its reputation for providing high-quality, affordable medical services and conducting groundbreaking research, the current state of the facility’s infrastructure does not live up to its status.
This is part of the Asantehene 25th Anniversary Legacy Project.
“The situation in the wards of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital is a heartbreaking and grim reality. Patients who come seeking medical care are faced with dilapidated and dangerous conditions with little comfort, safety or hope. Rusty and creaky beds, cracked and chipped floors, broken windows and peeling paint are just some of the harrowing scenes that greet patients and their families.
“The hospital lacks modern equipment such as a data network, no ceiling work, no paging system for nurses or a public address system, which only makes an already dire situation worse. “This is an unfortunate reality that no one should have to face when accessing medical care,” the project’s official website states.
