The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has reported to the Minister of Energy that the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has failed to issue load shedding timetables for customers during continuous power outages commonly referred to as “damsols”. .
GRIDCo said the National System Control Center (NSCC) had requested ECG to provide timetables as maximum transmission capacity was not available, and ECG’s refusal to comply with this request is critical to the stability of the national grid. It warns that it poses significant risks.
In a petition submitted to the Minister on Thursday, March 28, GRIDCo highlights the potential impact of ECG’s actions and warns of potential disruption to electricity supply to customers.
“We note with grave concern that there have been repeated instances of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) operating personnel failing to comply with load management instructions issued by the SCC. poses a serious threat to the stability of the system and can lead to:
- Avoidable power outages for customers
- system collapse
“The SCC regularly communicates load management instructions to ECG operations. However, these instructions are often ineffective or poorly implemented. I will.”

GRIDCo also clarified that the accusations against it for emergency disconnections do not accurately represent the current situation.
The company stressed that ECG’s failure to comply with load management instructions is a regulatory breach and therefore GRIDCo should not be held responsible for matters beyond its jurisdiction.
“In the event of such an emergency disconnection, ECG will issue a customer notification attributing the power loss to GRIDCo, which does not accurately describe the current situation. Additionally, ECG will issue a customer notice attributing the power loss to GRIDCo, which does not accurately describe the current situation. Ignoring this is a clear violation of regulations.”
GRIDCo is therefore calling on the Minister to intervene and ensure that ECGs comply with the issuance of load shedding schedules.
“We therefore draw this matter to the kind attention of the Minister and seek urgent intervention to ensure cooperation from the ECG regarding load management operations,” the petition reads.
