Nana Ohene Ntou, former general secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and currently senior advisor to Alan Kyerematen, says the party leader’s commitment to empowering youth and women is a key focus on the political agenda. He emphasized that.
He said about 70% of Ghana’s voters are between the ages of 18 and 45.
He noted that many of these young voters are not firmly rooted in the historical political traditions of Ghana’s two major political parties, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“You can go and check their own loyalty, especially the young people. They are young people, many of whom have graduated from universities and technical training institutes but are not employed. And Alan said that I I’m saying look at my blueprint and look at my track record in government.”
“My focus has been on creating avenues of employment. I have done a lot as a minister as well,” he said.
Mr. Ntou also noted that Ghanaian leaders, including former President Kufuor and President Akufo-Addo, had specific policies they focused on during their administrations.
He said former President Kufuor prioritized microeconomic stability, while President Akufo-Addo prioritized free high school education and a “food and jobs program.”
According to him, these were very good projects that addressed several challenges in the country.
“But Alan came in and said, listen, my focus is on fundamentally changing the foundations of the economy that we run. When I talked about the Guggisberg economy when I was a candidate and said I was going to change it when I became president, I was hoping for the kind of changes Alan was talking about.
“Something radical. Something revolutionary. That’s when you can say we’ve moved from a Guggisberg economy to a new kind of economy. But to a very large extent, we’re still kind of locked in. ” he said.
