President Akufo-Addo emphasized his authority in allocating development across the country, particularly in the roads sector.
He said no roads could be built in Ghana without Ghana’s tacit approval, stressing his pivotal role in road construction decisions.
On April 28, President Akufo-Addo addressed New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters in Ejisu about road construction in response to independent candidate Kwabena Owusu Aduomi in the upcoming Ejisu by-election.
He promised them final say on road construction anywhere in the country.
The President’s remarks were made during the last rally of NPP candidates ahead of the by-election following the death of Ejisu MP John Kuma.
President Akufo-Addo concluded by stressing that independent candidates do not have the authority to initiate road construction projects in the country.
“What roads has he built since he was removed?” he said, addressing former MP Kwabena Aduomi, who decided to run as an independent candidate.
“I am not saying this to brag, but no road can be built in Ghana without my permission. From today until January 7, the government in power is the NPP government led by Akufo-Addo.”
“If we need someone to get the attention of a nuclear president, we need a nuclear power congressman,” he said.
President Akufo-Addo also stressed the importance of the NPP maintaining a narrow majority in Parliament to advance the government’s agenda in the remaining months.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining a majority of nuclear power plants to ensure a smoother process of government business.
The Ejisu by-election is scheduled for April 30, 2024, following the vacancy created by the death of Dr. John Kuma.
The late Dr. Kuma passed away on March 7, 2024 after battling a terminal illness.
He was transferred from Kumasi to Accra to continue on to Germany, but died of illness in Suhum.
Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) chose not to participate in the by-election, citing its focus on the upcoming national elections.
