North Tongu Constituency Member of Parliament Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has revealed new details about the cocaine smuggling scandal at Kotoka International Airport.
He revealed that letters he came across indicated that the main suspects arrested in the scandal would continue to receive two-thirds of their salaries during the ongoing investigation.
Additionally, the letter suggests that the government cannot recover the salaries of those who may be found guilty of a crime.
Mr. Ablakwa expressed anger at the unseemly conduct of the airport staff, which he believes could damage the country’s reputation internationally and affect the nation in the future.
“Intercepted interdict letters in the ongoing Ghana airport cocaine smuggling case have revealed that the main suspects are to enjoy two-thirds of their salaries during the interdiction period. is completely ridiculous and will not serve as a sufficient deterrent to other operatives at Kotka International Airport who may wish to engage in such heinous acts.

The lawmaker urged the government to take strict measures to curb drug smuggling, which has become a major hurdle for the state.
“Ghana must immediately take a tough and unyielding stance in the fight against drug smuggling, a battle in which we have recently embarrassingly lost, with serious international consequences.
“We need to start a new chapter at the airport. All officials, from the board and management to the staff and other personnel, understand that such actions come at a huge cost. “It’s not a system where you stay at home and receive two-thirds of your pay. You get paid even if you don’t work,” he argued.
It will be recalled that the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has detained all its personnel involved in the recent cocaine smuggling incident at the Kotoka International Airport.
