NEW ORLEANS, Los Angeles – The West Texas A&M track and field programs head into the Lone Star Conference Championship ranked No. 3 and No. 4 in the nation, as released by the United States Track and Field Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
NO. 3 BUFFS
The Buffs are ranked No. 3 in the nation after owning two national-leading marks with Isaac Bozio (100m) and William Amponsah (10,000m). Botsio, a sophomore from Takoradi, Ghana, recently qualified for the Paris Olympics with Team Ghana in the men’s 4×100 relay.
In the top rankings in the country, the Buffs have 11 top-10 temps with Aziz Muhammad (4u1500m / 7u800m.) Joseph Oreva (4uLong jump); Harry Lourdour (4u10,000m.); William Amponsah (6u5,000m.); Romet Vahter (7uDecathlon); Manuel Cuesta (8utriple jump); Gerard Bryant (9u, Decathlon); And the men’s 4×100 (9u).
Rounding out the top 5 universities are No. 1 Pittsburgh State, No. 2 Grand Valley, No. 3 WTAMU, No. 4 Missouri Southern and No. 5 Wingate.
NO. 4 OIL BUFFS
The Lady Buffs are ranked No. 4 in the nation with national leaders Florance Uwajeneza (10,000m) and the Lady Buffs 4×100 relay.
The Lady Buffs have 12 provisional top-10 points Deborah Acheampong (5u100m / 1St4×100); Joy Udo-Gabriel (1St4×100); Amari Weatherford (1St4×100); DeOndra Green (1St4×100); Corrsia Perry (3rd200m / 3rd400m.); Florance Uwajeneza (6u5,000m.); Miriam Zanovello (9utriple jump); Kylie Benton (10uLong jump); Laiten Greeson (6uDecathlon).
Rounding out the top-5 are No. 1 Adams State, No. 2 Pittsburgh State, the No. 3 Grand Valley, the No. 4 WTAMU and the No. 5 Minnesota State.
