Thursday, May 9, Accra, Ghana – THE Mastercard Foundation in cooperation with MEST of Africaofficially launched the EdTech Fellowship program where twelve (12) cohorts were selected.

The Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship is designed to support promising African EdTech companies with critical business and financial support, informed by the science of learning, preparing them for scale, sustainability and impact.
The event had special guests including Ghana’s Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, who gave a speech on the progress of education in Ghana. He also officially launched the scholarship.

“Through our partnership with MEST Africa, we are working to increase access to quality and relevant learning for underserved Ghanaian and African students through locally developed technology-enabled solutions. In 2023, solutions from the Mastercard Foundation EdTech Scholarship cohorts in South Africa, Nigeria and Kenya reached 2.6 million students. Selected cohorts
The cohorts selected for the fellowship are as follows:
- DeafcanTalk โ A startup that provides accessibility to deaf students with assistive technology, removing communication barriers and enabling inclusive education.
- Coral reef โ A hub preparing students for the future workforce through AI, content development and Edtech services
- eCampus โ An online platform that helps learning with technology-based solutions, facilitating smarter study, employability and well-being for one billion students around the world.
- Inspirational Teachers โ A non-profit organization that helps teachers improve learning outcomes for Ghanaian children by leveraging their combined expertise in teacher training and program development.
- Firefly IO โ A startup pioneering hands-on STEAM and Robotics education, fostering curiosity, creativity and problem-solving skills to empower students to make real-world impacts.
- PerbiCubs โ A literacy program using engaging digital tools to address poor reading skills among Ghanaian and African children.
- Q Meet Edtech โ A startup that democratizes education by offering quality learning resources and personalized instruction, using technology and teacher expertise to provide accessible educational opportunities.
- Alpha Virtual Academy โ A comprehensive digital learning platform for K-9 schools in Ghana, including interactive modules, assessments, teacher training and administrative tools to improve education quality and accessibility
- Wonderspace โ An educational content creation, publishing and distribution platform for primary school students and teachers focused on promoting critical thinking, creativity and literacy through interactive content.
- Ayaprep โ An educational application that teaches mathematics in local Ghanaian languages, enhancing accessibility and participation in learning
- Loozeele Academy โ A STEM-focused preschool in the Upper East region, offering comprehensive learning experiences and hands-on exposure at an affordable cost
- Dext technology โ An edtech startup that develops and develops innovative, user-friendly and cost-effective tools for effective learning in basic Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education.
