New Patriotic Party (NPP) Public Relations Director Richard Ahiagba has denied reports that he attempted to register twice in the limited voter registration exercise.
He claims the claims are false and baseless.
There was chaos at the Ketu South Electoral Registration Center on Saturday, May 11, 2024, when Mr Ahiagba went to register on the electoral register.
According to reports, processing of Ahiagba’s details was stopped following intervention from government officials. National Democratic Congress (NDC) objected.
NDC representatives pointed out that the NPP Public Relations Officer voted in the 2020 elections and would therefore be liable for dual registration if the application is granted.
However, in a statement on the X Platform, he said: The claim that I attempted to double-register is false and baseless. ”
Describe what happened at the registration center. He said: “I have been registered and voting in Ketu South since 2000 and my citizenship and being a son of Ketu South is well known to the NDC agents who challenged my eligibility today. There is.
“In 2020, I received my voter card for the 2020 general election from the Electoral Commission. However, during a limited voter registration exercise in 2023, my biometrics failed to register and subsequently I tried to correct this administrative error during the 2023 Limited Voter Registration process, but EC officials told me to join later. They advised them to seek one or get a new voter ID card during the 2024 Limited Voter Registration Period.
4. Today I went to the registration center where I registered in 2020 to correct the EC mismanagement and was met with a frivolous and obstructive challenge to my eligibility. Despite my attempts to advise the NDC challengers to desist from interfering with the registration process, neither NDC representatives nor EC officials paid any heed.
“This challenge is a sign of more destructive acts to come. I therefore urge the EC to take a firm and decisive stance to counter these trends and ensure peace. I am determined to put my name on the list, exercise my democratic right to vote, and go through all the necessary processes to support the New Patriotic Party on December 7th.
