Road users on the Kasoa tollgate section have expressed concerns about an alternative route to Accra, citing its dire situation and fear of being cut off from the capital in the event of major flooding.
As the rainy season intensifies, commuters are increasingly worried about possible flooding and damage to the Kasoa toll plaza section.
The alternative route through Akosua Agyapong and Old Barrier is full of large potholes and gorges, making it difficult for commuters and motorists to pass, especially during rainy days. Residents living beyond Kasoa are particularly concerned that if the Kasoa toll section is damaged, the alternative route will not be able to handle the increased traffic, effectively leaving them isolated from Accra.
Commuters and drivers expressed their displeasure to City News, describing the alternative route as “deplorable”.
They say the poor condition of the roads not only disrupts daily travel but also raises safety concerns, especially during the rainy season.
One person said: βThe condition of our roads is terrible. When it rains, navigation is very difficult. There is a special stretch of road called Akosua Agyapong that becomes virtually impassable when it rains heavily. Vehicles are constantly stuck, leading to significant damage. The situation at Old Barrier is even more dire and our daily struggle is even worse.”
βWhen it rained on Monday, the area became a serious problem. We were forced to choose an alternative route from Tuba to Old Barrier to avoid the main stretch of Kasoa toll plaza. However, this route was full of potholes and clogged gutters. It was difficult to navigate, especially when carrying passengers,” added another commuter.
