New Patriotic Party (NPP) prominent figure Dr. Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe has expressed surprise at the comments of eminent lawyer Sam Okudzeto regarding corruption allegations against former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Dapaa.
He criticized statements in support of former Minister Okudzeto, saying they were unbecoming of his position, and said such statements were unacceptable and should be condemned.
Dr Nyaho Tamakloe stressed the importance of holding government officials to account, especially in corruption cases, to ensure transparency in the system.
“I was surprised that my brother Sam Okudzeto made a statement on the Cecilia Dapaah case, I was really surprised, I know he is not angry, but I was surprised because if he had a glass he would be able to explain.
“And there are buildings all over the place where they live. Are you saying they were just built there? People built it there. Where did they get the money from? And these are things that are frustrating to the public,” he said in an interview with Kahui Day.
It is worth noting that Sam Okudzeto previously stated that it is not illegal to keep money at home as there is no law prohibiting such an act.
He faced heavy criticism after defending Cecilia Dapaah, who is under investigation for corruption.
background:
Cecilia Dapaa faces charges of corruption and related crimes following the arrest of two of her housekeepers for allegedly stealing $1 million, €300,000 and other valuables from her Abelenkpe residence. The case is being investigated by the Office of Special Prosecutors (OSP).
Following an order from an Accra High Court to lift Cecilia Dapaah’s frozen accounts and return the funds seized following the first freezing order, the OSP froze her accounts for a second time on September 5, 2023.
GhanaWeb reported on August 9, 2023 that the OSP had frozen the assets and bank accounts of the former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, including substantial amounts in dollars and cedis.
On October 16, 2023, the OSP unfrozen five of Cecilia Dapaa’s bank accounts.
The firm said that while five of the accounts had been lifted, the freeze on other bank accounts and financial assets remained in effect.
