The Super Falcons of Nigeria did not change position as they maintained the 36th position in the latest FIFA world rankings.
The latest rankings were published on the FIFA website on Friday 14 June 2024.
In Africa, however, the nine-time African Women’s Cup of Nations champions remain number one.
Group C opponents in the football event at this summer’s Paris Olympics, Spain and Japan, have maintained their respective first and seventh positions in the world.
While, Brazil, who are also in the same group as the Falcons at the games, moved up one place to ninth.
Africa’s other Olympic representative, Zambia, now ranks 64th.
The last time the Falcons did well in the rankings was in August 2023, when they moved up eight spots from 40th to 32nd.
The impressive move up the rankings was a result of their impressive showing at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Despite being drawn in a tough group that featured hosts Australia, Olympic champions Canada and debutant Republic of Ireland, the Falcons still qualified for the round of 16.
Unfortunately, they lost to England on penalties in the first knockout stage after 120 minutes of football ended 0-0.
The next FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking will be published on 16 August 2024.
Meanwhile, the Falcons would return to the football event at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
After participating in the 2008 games, they missed out on three consecutive editions – London 2012, Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.
Their first Olympic appearance was in Sydney 2000 where they lost all three groups to USA, China and Norway by the same score, 3-1.
Athens 2004 was the Falcons’ best performance as they reached the quarter-finals, a feat no other African country has achieved.
After getting out of a group that featured Japan and Sweden, they eventually lost 2-1 to Germany in the quarter-finals.
