On the second day of his working visit to the Ashanti Region, Hon. Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to update him on the progress of the hospitals and his itinerary in the region.
He assured the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II that the new Ashanti Regional Hospital in Sewua Bosomtwe District will be ready for commissioning in September 2024.
He then proceeded to inspect the 40-bed Suame District Hospital to see the progress of the facility and also assess some challenges the facility may face when it becomes operational.
Mr. William Bawah, the Site Manager of the facility highlighted some challenges they identified such as land documentation challenges, inadequate housing and road network to the Hospital.
The Minister of Health and his entourage continued the tour at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), where they visited the Accident and Emergency Centre, the physiotherapy department and the maternity ward.
Welcoming the Minister of Health, the Chief Executive Officer of KATH, Prof. Ochere Addai-Mensah, briefed the minister on the pressure on facilities and staff, which naturally affects the quality of healthcare delivery. He highlighted the primary challenges facing the unit such as lack of heavy medical equipment and breakdown of some machinery in the oncology department.
“I am confident that if the facilities in Sewua and Afari are completed, the pressure on Komfo Anokye will be reduced,” he affirmed.
Hon. Benard Okoe Boye in his speech assured the management of KATH that he will work quickly with his team to ensure that these challenges are resolved.
He further commended the First Lady of the Republic of Ghana, Her Excellency Rebecca Akufo-Addo for constructing a Mother and Child Unit for the Hospital.
