ACP Dr. Benjamin Kwasi Agorzo
Former Assistant Commissioner of Police, Dr. Benjamin Agorzo, has said he will not remain silent after he was recently acquitted of treason charges at the Accra High Court and released.
Dr. Agorzo, who has given two media interviews since his acquittal, said in a Facebook post that he had been contacted by several people advising him to stop engaging with the media.
But in response, the former police officer said he believed now was an opportunity to give the public a different perspective on his five-year trial, which he described as being based on trumped-up charges.
“I have received numerous calls and messages advising me to stop talking to the media. I know that such people have good intentions when advising me to remain silent. respectfully disagrees.
“After nearly five years of dragging my name and reputation through the mud based on trumped-up charges, I have decided to address the issues brought against me so that the public understands the basis for my innocence and release. We must make our voices heard,” he wrote.
According to the ex-cop, he has more issues on his chest and is keeping it for good reason, and he won’t hesitate to divulge it if necessary.
ACP Agordozo was one of three people released on Wednesday, January 24, on charges of conspiracy to overthrow the government.
Six people were convicted of conspiracy to commit high treason and high treason.
ACP Agorzo was acquitted along with Colonel Gameli and another junior soldier, Corporal Seydou Abubakar.
The charges date back to April 24, 2021, and involve Citadel Hospital’s late CEO Dr. Frederick Yao McPalm, ACP Dr. Agorzo, and eight others.
The defendants were charged with various crimes, including conspiracy to commit high treason, abetting high treason, and high treason.
After the acquittal, Dr. Agorzo made several defensive accusations in an interview, including accusing Defense Minister Dominic Nitiulu of instigating the trial.
