The annual Impact Roundtable and Robotics Competition, held from 26th to 28th February 2024 at the UPSA Main Auditorium in Accra, featured the Yamoranza Model The impactful efforts of the laboratory (YM Lab) were introduced.
The event, organized by the promoters under the theme “Investing in the Future: Yamoranza Model Lab Program”, attracted participants from various educational institutions, including prestigious schools such as Presbyterian Boys’ School and Achimota High School. Ta.
The event began with an engaging quiz competition involving middle and high school students from various labs, setting the stage for three days of insightful discussions and innovative exhibits.
The second day featured a roundtable discussion and robotics exhibition, where 14 STEAM labs presented their projects in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
These projects, ranging from solar power generation to smoke detection devices, demonstrated the students’ ingenuity and commitment to addressing social challenges.
Throughout the event, luminaries such as Nana Gyamfi, Executive Director of CENDLOS, and Dr. Humphrey Iim Darke, President of the Ghana Industry Association, spoke about the importance of fostering collaboration, critical thinking and creativity in Ghana’s education system. emphasized.
Dr. Ayim-Darke, who is also the driving force behind Yamoransa Lab 6, emphasized the potential for collaboration with the business community and the alignment of YM Labs’ goals with the profit-driven nature of the business community.
Discussions at AIRTAD ’24 emphasized the need for partnerships to expand the impact of STEAM education. His Dr. William Owusu Oduro of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) stressed the importance of synergy between innovators and the private sector to bring innovation to the market.
Mr. Emmanuel Baidoo of AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi noted the excellent contributions made by individuals within the local community and praised the practical application of ideas presented at the event.
The robotics competition was a highlight of the event, showcasing students’ creativity and problem-solving skills. YM Lab 7 from the Oti region of Ghana won the junior high school category. YM Lab Gambia emerged victorious in the high school category, defeating stiff competition from Ghanaian schools such as Presec-Legon, Aburi Girls and Labone High in the finals.
Winners were rewarded with educational funds, cash prizes, laptops and tablets, highlighting their commitment to fostering talent and innovation.
