Antiquities at the reopened Manhyia Palace Museum in Kumasi are not only limited to Asante traditions and rights, but also electronics.
The museum’s old electronics include a refrigerator said to be 74 years old and still in use.
The antique refrigerator was featured in a video shared by TV3 after presenter Anita Akuffo visited the museum after the 25th anniversary durbar of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

According to the curator, Justice Brobbey, who spoke to Anita, the refrigerator was bought in 1950, during the reign of Nana Osei Agyeman Prempeh IIof his reign, and has not undergone any considerable repair since.
He reported that neither the engine nor the gas in the radiator had been changed since it was brought to Manhyia.
“We never changed the engine, we never filled the gas. It’s the same way it was in 1950, it’s the same way today,” he said.
After his narration, Anita opened the refrigerator door, revealing its completely frozen compartments to her surprise.

99-year-old fan in Manhyia causes a stir
Meanwhile, a 99-year-old fan inside the Manhyia Palace Museum, which is still operating today in 2024, had earlier sparked an online backlash.
In an exclusive video, Anita Akuffo tested the fan by turning on the switch, which moved while making a lot of noise.
