The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Tongu North Constituency, Dr John Elebru, has noted that the incumbent Member of Parliament for the area, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has been lax in developing the constituency.
He said Ablakwa had become a “civic watchdog on social media” rather than working on the ground to improve the living standards of his constituents.
He disclosed this in an interview with JoyNews on the sidelines of a press conference of the Union of Tongu Chiefs in Juapong, North Tongu Constituency in the Volta Region.
He stressed that the constituency has not seen any significant development in the past 12 years and has simply been labelled as one of the poorest areas in Ghana in the latest Ghana Statistical Service survey.
Dr Γrebro argued that a lack of investment and slowing economic growth has led to rising unemployment, hindering voters’ lives and contributing to a sense of hopelessness among young people.
“You have been a member of parliament for three terms, what do you have to prove? Look at the unemployed youth, the mud houses and shingle roofs. What investments have you seen here? What businesses can you name? What wealth have you created?” he asked.
He therefore pleaded with the youths of the area to elect him as the next Member of Parliament for the progress and development of North Tongu Constituency.
“Young people need to wake up. If they don’t vote for Γrebro, things will stay the same,” he stressed.
He said the people of the Volta Region understand that politics is about unity and development and therefore they are aligned with the NPP.
“We are going to the battlefield and he will lose the election. That’s all I want to say because if you look at the trends, the people of the Volta Region are waking up to the fact that politics is about two things: unity and development.”
Development requires unity. Unity is the driving force. [people of the Volta Region] he [Okudzeto Ablakwa] “He takes it for granted. He plans to retire in January,” he stressed.
