Serious insecurity has been reported in Tuobodom in the eastern Bono region as clashes have reignited between two factions in a fierce battle for chieftaincy.
Reports said the latest clashes followed the suspected killing of a young man by unidentified assailants.
When his family found his body dumped in the bush, they launched retaliatory attacks on opponents, sparking a series of spontaneous violent incidents over the past three days.
Video sighted by GhanaWeb showed a fierce gunfight between the rival factions.
Residents in the town told Onua FM’s Nana Yaa Brefo that one person was shot dead as a result of the gunfight.
He said the man, a tanker driver from Ivory Coast, was hit by a stray bullet while driving through Toubodom township amid heavy gunfire.
One video of the crash shows the shot driver being carried away by several residents.
Meanwhile, Tuobodom County has reportedly become a ghost town as residents fled to nearby towns in search of safety.
