A man, believed to be in his 50s, was found hanging from a tree near the Volta River in Kupong, eastern region.
Upon discovering the man’s body, local residents immediately identified him as the same person seen in the neighborhood last Friday night.
The body was discovered on Saturday morning and Pon Zongo constituency MP Gershon Amagro said the incident was reported to the Pon police immediately after being tipped off.
He said the deceased was not familiar to local residents and suspected suicide.
While searching his bag, authorities found a brown package containing a cell phone and a white envelope with the number 666 written on it, according to the lawmaker’s statement.
Additionally, a small red wallet containing a ring was also discovered.
When the Ghana News Agency contacted the Kpong police, they declined to comment as they were not authorized to speak publicly.
The identity of the deceased could not be determined.
However, as none of the local residents could identify him, one source suggested that the deceased may have been traveling at the time of his arrival.
βAlthough we could not confirm the identity of the body, it appears that the deceased was traveling when he arrived in Kupong,β the official said.
It added: “We have observed the deceased’s luggage, bags and other belongings, but we do not know what exactly happened as no one in the area claims to know him.” β he added.
After a brief physical examination of the deceased, officials said, “There was a small mark on his forehead, and then he was bleeding from his nose, as if it had fallen on his forehead.”
Meanwhile, the body was taken to Atua Government Hospital Mortuary in Odumase Krobo for preservation and post-mortem examination. Police are continuing to investigate.
