Famous Ghanaian actor and comedian Clement Bonny, popularly known as Mr. Beautiful, has criticized President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), saying their actions have made his supporters angry. He said it caused embarrassment.
Beautiful expressed regret and suggested that if he were in the shoes of fellow actors Kalibos and Agya Khoo, who staunchly support the NPP, he would be too embarrassed to appear in public.
He said this sentiment was due to the perception that the NPP was not fulfilling its promises and adequately supporting those campaigning for it.
“If I were Kalybos or Agya Khoo, I would cover my head with a ‘Mayafi’ scarf because I’m too embarrassed to show my face in public. It’s been eight years and they’re saying no to that. “What do we have to show?” he said. The question was asked during an interview with Nana Yaa Brefo and Isaac Eko JB on Onua FM’s Yen Sengpa on April 26, 2024.
Mr. Beautiful said that although his support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) affected his career, he would make the same choice again without hesitation or regret as it gave courage to others to make the same choice. I admitted that it was.
He commended those who switched allegiance from the NPP to the NDC, especially in the Ashanti Region, suggesting they had made the right decision given the current state of Ghana’s economy.
“In 2016, because of what I did, key NPP public figures were able to declare their party affiliation. Everyone should be able to show their faces and political colors in public. That’s a shame, because everyone belongs to a political party and everyone votes. That’s why we announced our political affiliation in 2012.
“Because of this, people criticized me and threatened me not to patronize my films, but now all those who supported such agendas and ideas in Kumasi have migrated to the world of light. They are now seeing what I saw in His Excellency John Dramani Mahama: he is well-bred, he cares about his people and he is a real human being.
“Those who migrated to the NDC have seen the light. If there is to be an award, it should go to those who made the right decisions, bluntly, because the Ghanaian economy is not looking good and has no future. ” he said. .
He praised the achievements the NDC achieved during its tenure, including the construction of new infrastructure such as airports, ports, schools and hospitals, but saw a lack of tangible progress during the NPP’s tenure.
“The NDC built new airports, ports, more schools, more hospitals in four years, but when you went to support President Akufo-Addo and his fellow driver Bawumia for eight years, the NPP support “What do they have to show for their toil? What do they have to show for it, even though it takes years?” he asked.
