Some of my friends in government have pointed out that I have recently been “attacking President Nana Addo frequently” and have asked me why I have had a “fallen out” with my friend, President Nana Addo. I will give you a simple answer.
First, I have deep respect and admiration for President Nana Akufo-Addo’s decades of work to push the boundaries of freedom from totalitarian rule, and when he took office he made no secret of his admiration for me in meetings, at times to my pleasant displeasure.
For example, on November 25, 2017, at the birthday event of a respected lawyer friend of mine, the President paid me a brilliant tribute: “When I walked in, I saw Franklin Kadjo and I heard the statement, ‘The most important man in Ghana right now.’ And I had the feeling he was going to say ‘Franklin Kadjo.’ But it was me he was talking about, because [Franklin Cudjoe] “He is certainly the most important man in Ghana.” – President Akufo-Addo.
Yes, my able aides Bright Simons, Sellom Branty, Kofi Bentile and I were invited by Nana and his advisory panel to discuss the feasibility of a free SHS programme long before he won the election in 2016. We were opposed to a free-for-all approach but provided a detailed analysis projecting enrolment figures and financial expenditure through 2020.
I am so disappointed and angry with him and never miss an opportunity to criticize his Ministers and CEOs of State Owned Enterprises for standing by and watching as they stagnate the economy, destroy our pristine rivers and forests through illegal mining and engage in fraudulent multi-million dollar procurement scams (SML, PDS, KelniGVG, 5G network licenses Frontiers Health Covid-19). [only 25% of all funds received applied directly to covid-related interventions].
A few years ago, 85% of contracts procured bypassed the GIFMIS system that could have tracked the fabricated fraud. The very generous GENSER gas deal to political party donors, and very, very poor decisions in the oil sector…Ghana lost almost $30 billion on the Aker oil deal. Think what the CEO of the Trade Fair Centre, who was supposed to be in good hands, did to the Centre. These are just some of your cardinal sins, my friend Nana Addo. The SALL fiasco isn’t even on the list.
Nana’s legacy is to have overseen the most financially reckless economy since independence, leaving us with a massive debt that will last us a lifetime, and succeeding in literally cutting us off from borrowing on the international market. What pisses me off the most is his wayward cathedral project with holes waiting for God’s new blessing, which will never happen until he steps down.
Yes, Nana Addo was my friend. Only true friends can face the truth and be bold enough to tell each other. Nana, your legacy has been ruined.
We can be friends again if we read your memoir apologizing for taking us on a painful journey to your hell’s kitchen.
Now Bawumia is struggling to avoid the economy, the adulterated fuel that causes the jerky movements of the cars he drives, and trying to take over management of the damaged vehicles he lavishly praised as the safest since Henry Ford’s “God be with him.”
Please share this far and wide with all the little boys and girls who think they know us at NPP.
