Dr Rosemond Wilson has been appointed as the new Head of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) National Office in Ghana.
She replaces Wendy E. Addie Lamptey, who retired. The announcement was made in a statement by WAEC on Wednesday, July 17, in Accra.
The statement highlighted Dr Wilson’s vast experience and expertise in evaluation gained during his 27-year tenure with WAEC which began in September 1997.
Prior to assuming his current role, Dr Wilson served as Head of Test Development at WAEC.
Her professional life began in the early 1990s as an elective mathematics lecturer at Baidoo Bonsoye High Technical School and then Tarkwa Senior High School in the Western Region of Ghana.
“Dr Wilson joined WAEC Ghana in 1997 and has since dedicated his professional life to the organisation. He began his humble beginnings as an Officer in the Records and Aptitude Testing Division and subsequently became the Subject Officer for Mathematics. Over the past decade, Dr (Mrs) Rosemond Wilson has held key leadership and management positions in the Council, including Head of Mathematics, Post-Examination Division and Test Development Division (TDD).”
“Since joining the Council, she has made significant contributions through various initiatives aimed at improving examination operational processes, quality and fairness. Her career has been characterised by a demonstrated ability to design, implement and synergise test development and administration policies that improve productivity and deliver organisational outcomes. Dr Wilson’s tenure at WAEC has been characterised by commitment, integrity and a strategic orientation towards organisational development.”
“Her academic journey began at Holy Child Secondary School, Cape Coast where she obtained her GCE Ordinary and Advanced Level Certificates and she subsequently completed her Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Mathematics at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
“She holds two Masters degrees, a Master of Science in Statistics and a Master of Measurement and Evaluation from the University of Cape Coast. She also holds a PhD in Mathematics Education from the University of Education, Winneba,” the statement added.
The statement also noted that Dr Wilson has participated in and presented papers at numerous national and international conferences on mathematics teaching and assessment.
“In her new role as Head of WAEC Ghana Headquarters, Dr Wilson is excited to lead the organisation with a focus on maintaining the highest standards of educational assessment. Her vision is to ‘build WAEC Ghana into an organisation with an impeccable reputation for excellence.'”
“She is committed to implementing innovative policies that will enhance the reliability and validity of examinations administered by the Council. She will deepen stakeholder engagement and collaboration, leveraging their shared desire to ensure ‘academic and moral excellence’. Dr. (Mrs.) Wilson is a member of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC). She is married and has two adult children,” the statement said.
